Doug Crozier

Called to the Ontario Bar in 1976, Doug spent one year teaching at Osgoode Hall Law School at York University before undertaking the practice that continues today. It has two aspects. The majority of his time is devoted to a general Solicitor's practice, focussing on corporate work, commercial agreements, buying/selling businesses, real estate, leases, wills and estates, etc. With the balance, he focuses on the travel industry. As time and opportunity permit, he lectures and writes on legal issues; for example, the monthly columns in Canadian Travel Press that he shares with Tim Law of the firm. He is a Director, and the Secretary, of the International Forum of Travel & Tourism Advocates, an international organization of lawyers and academics with a professional involvement in the Travel Industry.

Timothy Law

Tim moved from England to Canada in 1983 and studied in the Québec college system (C.E.G.E.P.) for 2 years. He was then admitted to McGill to study law, which he did in both English and French, completing his third year at Laval University in Québec City. He was granted both a Civil and Common law degree from McGill in 1989. Tim was called to the Ontario bar in 1991 and, after clerking to the judges of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, he joined a sole practitioner with whom he practiced for 2 years. Tim then joined Heifetz, Crozier as counsel in 1994 and became a partner of Heifetz, Cozier, Law in 1997. He is a proud member of the International Law Association and the International Forum of Travel & Tourism Advocates. Since joining Heifetz, Crozier, Tim has carried out work for airlines, airline consolidators, tour operators, travel agencies, travel management companies, travel insurance companies and individuals in the travel industry; as well as for other commercial and individual clients. Those clients are located in various parts of the world, including Canada, the U.S., the Americas, the U.K. and Europe. Tim’s work has been carried out in courts (in 6 of the 10 Canadian provinces) and before regulatory/administrative bodies and arbitration panels. Tim has always considered himself more a barrister than a solicitor, meaning that he litigates more than he drafts documents/agreements. Using his litigation experience he does however also draft various types of agreements, e.g. Hotel, Preferred Supplier, Independent Contractor, Employment and Insurance, as well as specific provisions within the agreements, e.g. terms and conditions of liability and dispute resolution clauses. Having begun his career on the “other side of the bench” as clerk to the Superior Court judges, Tim has an insight into the judicial decision making process. That work included research for the judges across the province of Ontario and specific assignments with judges in the Toronto region of the court. Work with the Toronto based judges involved time in court, listening to the cases and discussion of them after the hearings were concluded. After leaving the court Tim’s practice was initially broad, including criminal defence, plaintiff personal injury and family law, however for the past twenty years it has focused on employment, commercial disputes, insurance, private international law and administrative work in the travel industry. In addition to his practice, Tim has spoken at various conferences in Canada, including the Travel Law Conference (hosted by Heifetz, Crozier, Law and Baxter Travel, see www.travellaw.ca), Mexico, South America and the U.S. He also contributes articles to legal and travel publications.
